Matched Pair — Vintage Lane Postmodern Cream Lacquer & Brass Highboy Dressers, c. 1980s Up for auction is a rare matched pair of Postmodern highboy dressers by Lane Furniture of Altavista, Virginia — one of America’s most celebrated furniture makers. Dating to the 1980s, these statement pieces are finished in a high-gloss cream lacquer with signature horizontal brass banding and a full brass plinth base, hallmarks of the Hollywood Regency–meets–Postmodern aesthetic that defines the era. Each chest measures 36”W × 18”D × 50”H and features five generously sized drawers on ball-bearing slides that could benefit from a light lubrication — an easy fix that will have them gliding like new. All corners are crisp and intact on both units. The sides of both dressers present beautifully. The left dresser is in excellent vintage condition with no notable flaws. The right dresser shows a small area of lacquer wear approximately 3–4 inches in diameter on the side where it rested against a bed frame, with a touch-up repair in place — disclosed fully and visible in photos. Both pieces are structurally sound and solid. Matched pairs in this style are increasingly difficult to find and are highly sought after by interior designers and collectors alike. These are ready to use as-is or would respond beautifully to a professional lacquer refresh on the one repaired area. Estimated Fair Market Value: $800–$1,100 for the pair
