1964 SHASTA ASTRODOME Turn heads everywhere you go with this unique vintage 1964 Shasta Astrodome camper! Although Shasta was the largest manufacturer of recreational travel trailers in the 1960’s, the Astrodome model was only issued between 1961-64 making it an extremely hard to find model. This beauty was manufactured in the Leola, PA plant that opened during the Shasta boom in 1963 and sleeps 4-6 with a rare cab-over double-sized bunk, a fold-down front dinette with original spring-type cushions, and the base of a gaucho or jackknife sofa in the back. This Astrodome is full of vintage charm starting with the distinctive Shasta “wings” - a visible identifier of Shasta travel trailers in the 1960s and beyond. The original silver of these aluminum wings are shining through under that black paint and just waiting to be restored! Inside you will find the Shasta “S” magazine rack, an original ironing board (!), crank jalousie windows with screens, coppertone stove and several original light fixtures. Although an air conditioner was installed by a previous owner, the original jalousie window parts are included. One of the cool things about the Shasta names are that they break down to tell you what the camper included. “Astro” means it has the extra cab-over bunk in the front of the camper, and this one has the original ladder intact that also acts as a side rail. “Dome” tells you it has a toilet closet that can be reinstalled. Although there is evidence of previous water leakage, not uncommon in campers of this age, and a bit of TLC is needed to get this Astrodome up and running, this could be your canvas or winter project to return it to its warm honey birch interior and full functionality. Once you renovate this icon of another era, you will be the envy of every vintage camper and trailer enthusiast around! Length: 16′ Dry weight: 2100 lbs Date under sink as an indicator of age marked 7/20/1963, but the Serial # P-1813 on tongue of trailer was researched to determine manufacturing date of September 1964. “P” indicated manufacturing at Leola, PA plant. Decorative items shown on the exterior of the camper are for decorative purposes only and are not included in the lot. When bidding on this lot, please be aware that there is wear and damage that is consistent with age and normal for this type of asset, although the interior damage is significant. The need for restoration is shown in the photos. We recommend that anyone bidding on this item request a preview by calling Sara / Paula at 860 887 8052.
